It´s always been a challenge to attract the attention of those in the boardroom regarding the importance of
data storage. At the end of the day it is not their concern; the IT department is responsible for every day data and if there is a crucial file missing, it's the IT Director who is held accountable for its wherabouts.

However, as the news stories have emphasised, there have been a few specific high-profile instances where the absence of a file or specific data has been paramount in a court of law and it´s no longer a case of those executives in the Boardroom being able to pass the responsibility down the chain of command – it´s they who are held responsible for this and ultimately it´s they who are faced with the consequences if the court rules against them.

Subsequently, data and the storage of it, is suddenly a very important topic on the board room agenda. It´s always been critical to any business, as businesses are founded upon their specific intellectual property, which is now (in the vast majority of cases) held in some sort of electronic format. Ultimately the world is becoming more and more of an electronic world and the legal admissibility of this data has ensured that 100% guaranteed reliable and secure data storage is now no longer a desirable, it´s an essential.
